Interview with Steve Berra.

How long have you been skateboarding?

Almost 24 years. Can you believe that? Pro for 19.

Why did you choose skateboarding?

I played soccer growing up. It was my life. Eat, breathe, sleep soccer. I played for all the best teams. I have 90 first place soccer trophies sitting in my dad’s garage, but independence was always something that interested me. This manifested through BMX at first, but then it quickly shifted to skateboarding. I moved from St. Louis to Omaha when I was in 7th grade, all the kids in my neighborhood had a skateboard. I told my sister I’d never get one, but by the time my birthday rolled around, I couldn’t resist. In the beginning it was just getting to and from my friends house and everyone else was doing it and I have no qualms about admitting that, but over the next two years, as the kids changed around me and drinking and smoking weed and doing drugs became more prevalent and they wanted to do that more than they wanted to skate, I clung to skateboarding even more as I was not interested in taking that turn down that street. My family never had money when I was a kid, I have 4 older sisters, but we did have a roof over our head and we did have food and that’s a huge achievement in and of itself, especially in that time, and something I didn’t understand the complexity of until I was older. When my parents split, the situation worsened and my mom and I moved to the shittiest little house that cost $300 a month, I ate once a day at a friend’s house because we couldn’t afford food and I skated for free at the skate park. So, at this point in my life, literally, skateboarding was my only way out. It was independent, it was anti-establishment, it was artistic, it celebrated creativity and it was opposite of what everyone around me was turning into, drones. My success with it all depended solely on me and I learned a lot of hard lessons. There is nothing on earth like it and I will love it and follow it until the day I die.

What’s your favorite trick?

My favorite trick is the 360 flip. I do not possess a very good 360 flip and this is probably the reason as to why it is my favorite trick. You can never go wrong with a 360 flip.

What’s your favorite skate video?

As a kid: Ban This

As a newly sponsored 16 year old: Video Days, Rubbish Heap and the Planet Earth video.

As a professional: That is a very tough call. I can appreciate the beauty in almost every skate video because I know how hard people work on them.

Who are your top 5 skaters?

5 is not really fair because I have way more than 5. Because I turned pro for skating vert, then quickly made a transition to street skating thanks to Eric, I will give you the top 5 in both categories.

STREET

Eric Koston

Rick Howard

Marc Johnson

Heath Kirchart

Mike Mo

VERT

Danny Way

Bucky Lasek

Tom Boyle

Justin Lynch

Peter Hewitt

How did you meet Eric Koston?

We met at an amateur contest back in 1991.

Why did you start the Berrics?

Eric and I started it because there needed to be another system established to promote companies, professionals and up and coming skateboarders that embraced the changing landscape of media due to the internet. We knew it was a chance for us to develop something that could enable us to do thing we had seen done improperly during our career because they were being done by people who either don’t skate or are unaware of the things pro skateboarders go through. We just wanted something done by pro skateboarders with the benefit of pro skateboarders in mind.

What do you hope to accomplish?

Anything and everything I can. I’m one of those guys who doesn’t think it’s silly that a single person can improve the way things are with hard work and care.

What is the hardest thing to deal with being a public figure?

I have a different kind of “fame”. I’m well known in my field, but not to the general public so it’s nice in that respect. What sucks about the position I’m in now is that people mistake popularity with wealth. I hear the nuttiest things about me and my bank account. And because this idea is pretty pervasive it leaves a lot of room for people to be disappointed with me for very misinformed reasons. The best I can do though is to do my best with the same 24 hours in every day we’re all given.

Do you think our current government is working?

I do not. It’s been broken for a long time and I believe we have yet to see the worst of it. The United States, with its wild spending, cannot sustain itself and this is very sad to me.

How do you feel about President Obama?

When I first heard about him I was backing him, then I did some research and then followed the campaign, have now followed his presidency and, well, unfortunately, I’m not impressed. More spending. More War. More protection for the banks and despite saying the contrary, the same old connections to Wall Street. Keywords: Goldman Sachs, Robert Rubin, Larry Summers, Timothy Geithner, New York Federal Reserve Bank, Federal Reserve Bank, Christina Romer, Jon Corzine, Mark Patterson, Henry Paulson, George W. Bush, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, American International Group (AIG), Ed Liddy, Ben Bernanke, Robert K Steel, Wachovia Bank, Neel Kashkari, Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), Reuben Jeffrey, Dan Jester, Steve Shafran, Kendrick Wilson III, Edward Frost, Josh Bolton, Bank of Inernational Settlements (BIS), International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and let me say once again, Goldman Sachs. But hey, I’m just a skateboarder, I don’t know much about politics so ask me about kickflips.

What would you do with a billion dollars?

I’d have my own freeway. I’d change the prices of gas, of course, bring them down to where they was. I’d put cocaine back in Coca-Cola, cuz they took it out. I’d put that back. I’d get love for that! I’d take off all banned substances from sports so you could use whatever steroid or horomone growth you want as long as you hittin’ home runs it’s fine with me. I’d make prostitution legal in about 5 more states. You know I would legalize weed first and second. I’d put a law to it that there’s no more child support and there’s no more, what they call that stuff, no more little pre-nup. You don’t have to sign that cuz she don’t get nothin’ period. I would make it like just because she married you that don’t mean nothing, cuz she laid with you for some years she gotta get somethin, I been layin with another bitch too the whole time, she don’t get shit. See I don’t like that. I’d use that billion dollars to change that. Next question. Me for President, don’t holla atchya boy. (first person to name in the comments section below where and who I got those answers from and the one answer that was added by me, I will send a free Berrics Runs hoodie)

**BONUS QUESTION: Okay, this is a bonus question and it’s tough. Give me the connection between the  ANSWER  of the first PRIZE question and myself. Whoever gets and names the connection in the comments section below, The Berrics will send you a complete skateboard of your choice.

Do you ever want to act again?

I get asked that more than I thought I ever would. Yes, I want to, but the truth is I’ve got other things I’m more committed to at the moment. How about this though, I will act in your next film and I will act in my next film. Sound good? You can act in my next film too because you are one of the finest actors I’ve seen and I’m not just saying that because this is your blog, because I don’t give a fuck about no blog, player.

Do you ever want to Direct again?

I’m building the Berrics empire so that I can. I want to be a real ally to filmmakers so that I don’t have to deal with the garbage I went through with The Good Life.

I wouldn’t bestow that upon my worst enemy.

I had a conversation with Miguel Arteta this summer about challenges he’s gone through in his career and I just thought to myself, here is this fantanstic director who is obviously the brightest guy in most rooms he’s in, why on earth would you give him a hard time? I want The Berrics to be so big that it becomes this safe haven for skateboarders, filmmakers, photographers, musicians, etc. Where they can get done the things they want to get done without someone not as bright as them harnessing their ability to create. We have a long way to go, but it’s something to shoot for.

Who are some of your Favorite directors?

David Fincher, MIchael Mann, PTA, Jonathan Demme, Alan Parker, Scorcese, Miguel Arteta, Todd Solondz, Fernando Mierelles, Alfonso Cuaron, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Andrew Dominick. Three directors who have only made one film and I cannot wait until I see their next, Bennet MIller (Capote), Niels Mueller (The Assassination of Richard Nixon) . and yourself (Explicit Ills).

What are some of your Favorite films?

Any film made by the above directors.

Organic or conventional?

Organic.

What’s it like being a father?

It’s tough sometimes because you go through a lot of heartbreak as a kid and then when you think you’ve grown out of it, you have a child of your own and you go through it all over again. You also have expectations that are sometimes unrealistic, you have heartache with them not liking you, you have heartache as a result of their heartache, but on the flipside you have this indescribable joy and connection with another person that you just don’t have with anyone else and you have a real sense of achievement and pride when they turn out to be an extraordinary individual.

What three websites do you frequent the most?

I go to a lot of websites but not frequently. I only frequent two:

theberrics.com

slashfilm.com

If you could give anybody a piece of your mind who would it be and what would you say?

I’d rather not say, his dream might come true.

Beyonce or rihanna?

Rihyance.

Eminem or Asher Roth?

Without a doubt Eminem. In every field there is always one person who is so much rawer, so much more ahead of everyone else that it’s impossible not to see it. In acting, it’s Leonardo DiCaprio, Skateboarding, Danny Way. Rapping, Eminem. They are the best and the brightest.

Do you have a favorite photographer?

No.

Do you have a favorite artist?

No.

What advice would you give an aspiring pro-skater?

Skateboarding is about commitment not desire. You can have all the desire in the world but if you are not committed you will not make it.

What is the nicest thing someone has said to you?

My daughter said to me the other day while we were getting in the car for no particular reason, “Dad… I love you.” And she’s 16 so that is an incredible, incredible feeling.

What is the meanest thing someone has said to you?

“Dad, I hate you.” She never said that to me, but she said it.

What makes you the happiest in life?

A job well done, no matter what job that is.

What’s your motivation?

Money. Money and more money. I love it and want it so much I twittered a little rap about it to the ladies not too long ago. It went somethin like this:

You betta suck dick for that money

sell yo baby for that money

rob yo neighba for that money

kill my hayta’s for that money

cuz you won’t neva be my honey

if my sad days ain’t funny

or my gloomy days sunny

with da only thing you good for

and that’s bringin’ me money, money, money!

Bitch.

It was in Lil Wayne’s documentary “The Carter” which came out on November 17. An interviewer asks him “What would you do if you were president?” Steve added to his answer “I’d have my own freeway. I’d change the prices of gas, of course, bring them down to where they was.” Lil wayne said the rest.

My adress is 2549 west 11400 south, south jordan, utah, (zip) 84095.

  97. mike s

  98. Javi (spanish attempt of skateboarder :P )

Well, I liked most of the things that Steve pointed out on this interview, such as the commintment turning pro requires, as well as the comments on politics and skateboarding to get away from drugs and all that stuff (which is what I’ve understood. But sadly is becoming more related with skateboarding, because some young lads keep thinking that drugs are cool and they want to be damn cool mixing that shit with skateboarding).

Well, I do not feel as saying anything else, so I’ll just wish you a happy new year, wishing this year brings a damn change in the whole world, meaning more equal distribution of wealthness, people getting the power they own, not the politicians nor the bankers, and a lot of happy thinkings

    Steve, keep it going

  99. Ronnie

Lil wayne said “I’d put cocaine back in Coca-Cola, cuz they took it out. I’d put that back. I’d get love for that! I’d take off all banned substances from sports so you could use whatever steroid or horomone growth you want as long as you hittin’ home runs it’s fine with me. 175. Andy Hallock

JASH is the person, I think who wrote that quote. Im not 100% sure but its my guess. and I would really love a berrics hoodie. And even if i dont win anything, i still ove skateboarding and i still love the berrics.
    keep up the good work
    -Andy Hallock

  176. Sonny

i think you got those answers from donovan strain and the one answer you added was “I’d have my own freeway. I’d change the prices of gas, of course, bring them down to where they was.”

  181. Parker Crossland

I see no reason to give Miguel Arteta a hard time.

  182. Eric Cortez

I think the frst part about the highway was you. The rest was Lil Wayne(the Carter Interview)and i think the last 4 sentences was all you.

  183. Gabe

Thats what Lil Wayne said when they asked him what he would do if he was president in his new documentary The Carter. The “I’d have my own freeway” part is from Steve

  184. Graham

adding own freeway is yours the rest of the answers are from the carter documentary with lil wayne

  185. casey venegas

    Lil Wayne Documentary.

“I’d have my own freeway. I’d change the prices of gas, of course, bring them down to where they was.” is what you said yourself.

  187. Derek

Lil’ Wayne – The Carter Documentary

  188. How do you guys know that? well i don’t like rap so I guess I would have never guess it right. I’m just going to copy what other people say.

You got most of it by lil wayne. And you added the freeway part your self.

  189. Matt

Lil Wayne said it in The Carter Documentary. You added the freeway part.

  190. I Love all the Responses by Mr.Berra and he’s 1 of the Coolest MF’s around 2day n not a lot of people see that I feel like every 1 should read this interview he shows every 1 how awesome he is. I wish 2 b as good as Mr.Berra later in the Future because I share the same Views he has 4 Skate Boarding. 191. Lil wayne is in a movie with you.

  192. Duy Vu

    From Twitter.
    “steve_berra

K, a harder question for u. Name the connection between me & the answer to the question I asked in my interview. Winner gets a free complete ”

My answer is I think you guys have a connection through the Sun Dance Film festival. You guys probably met there. Because he premiered his Documentary and you did The good life(2007)

  193. Lil wayne and you are coming out in the the good life movie

  194. kyle adams

i’m gonna say that you added the thing about the highway steve, and everything else is from donovan strain

  195. Nvr mind you directed the movie and he came out in it

  196. I believe the answer is none of the above. The actual statement berra said was from none other than

    Al Gore

  197. Rodge

    Donovan from Buttery Ass Mondays….

  198. andrew herrington

shoot i put it in the wrong spot, but it was buttery ass donovan no?

  199. chris

lil wayne. th freeway thing was all you

  200. Amazing how fast 47 responses piled up. At first I thought “Why are all these people submitting answers when somebody already got it right?” Then I noticed they were all a minute apart.

  201. Nelson Crosss

  202. dallas

    freeway yours
    rest from lil wayne

  203. jorge

it was said by steve berra in the interview ( yo added the freeway)

but you got it from lil wayne’s documentary the carter

where he was asked what he would do if he was president

  204. Daniel

the connection between u and the answer u left is that its lil waynes quote and you think its not right and thats what you would fix if u had a billion dollaz

  205. Re: the 2nd question –

Weezy got his shot at stardom with help from the birdman. And so did you. The only difference is, your birdman was Tony Hawk, not Brian Williams.

  206. lil wayne
or obama back in the day lol

  207. lil wayne is where you got the answer from and you added the part about gas prices “I’d change the prices of gas, of course, bring them down to where they was.”

  208. Tyler Dunn

I believe you got the answer from lil weezy when interviewed during his documentary. He was asked what he would do if he was president and he answered with that answer the only thing that you added was “I’d have my own freeway. I’d change the prices of gas, of course, bring them down to where they was.” and “See I don’t like that. I’d use that billion dollars to change that. Next question. Me for President, don’t holla atchya boy.”

  209. garrett kendel

    lil wayne, tha carter documentary

  210. zach

    Buttery Ass Donovan

  211. Brandon

It’s from Aretha Franklin’s left pubic hair. Not the right one though.

  212. javon lang

it was lil wayne, The Carter documentary,i have it on my freeway.

  213. dgker138

the connection between you and the first question is that you started skating in 7th grade when you were 13 or 14 and turned pro when you were 18 in 1990 for Blockhead and left for birdhouse, and ultimately to alien workshop, which of course is your current sponsor

  214. Pavel V.

You got it from The Carter documentary
    Lil’ Wayne said it.

  215. Liz

you both directed Zooey Deschanel and grew up in Nebraska?

  216. Pavel V.

You got it from The Carter documentary
    and Lil’ Wayne said it.

  217. Jon

Its from Lil Wayne documentary and the last sentence where it says “Me for President, don’t holla atchya boy.” was added by you.

  218. Brandon

Both you and Lil’ Wayne went to high school together. After that you quit hanging out with him because he stated in an interview with the Rolling Stones that “Berra keeps trying to depants my already sagging down to my ankles pants. I don’t want no part of that crazy guy.” After this comment you were outraged. You then ate an entire bag of cheetos and watched Of Mice and Men just because. Later that night you whispered a voice which created the world. Then “let one slip”. And by slip I mean farted. Once Lil’ Wayne noticed you weren’t kidding around he gave you the idea to use his quote and put in something about freeway before it to stump 15 year olds and have them blow up Google Search. After that you kicked back, stretched your arms and played your Ukulele until midmorning. That is, until you found out Mike Mo left the gas on. As soon as you heard this you, Lil’ Wayne, Eric Koston, the Hamburglar, Elvis, and Rob Schneider’s character from the Waterboy raced to the house to make sure he turned it off. He did. Oh, he did. He managed to tre-flip it off while baking a cake (without the gas oven) and reciting Supakalifragelisticexpialadocious backwards like Ghostface Killah did on his Supreme Clientele CD. You are so flippin crazy that I need to go to sleep or cry for Captain James T. Kirk. We love you in Oklahoma. Really, we do. Especially Moore, Oklahoma. The heart of the ocean *TM.

Yes I *TM’ed that even though it was already used in Titanic. I really wrote it. Me and DiCaprio were at Mickey D’s the other day (before Titanic even sank) and I was discussing possibly coming up with a pizza loving mutant that fights crime (later stolen by Eastman and Laird in what was to become TMNT). I stated that it would be awesome if I was a seal named Wall-e (another steal) and I lived in the ocean. AT THE FLIPPIN HEART OF IT! What an ass. I also told him to act retarded in the Grapes of Wrath. Errrr…wait….What is eating Gilbert Grape. My bad. But still, all of my ideas. all of them.

Don’t quote me on that. But do. I’m always a fighter.

  219. Althya

mark webber was in both “the good life” and “weapons” They were both at 2007 sundance
director of “weapons” is also director of “the carter”
Weapons and The good Life were in the same category in Sundance “THE DRAMATIC” competion

    yay!

  220. Thomas

The connection between the answer of the first question and yourself is that you’ve skated for about 5 years before you turned pro.

  221. randy bazin

    pulp fiction.

  222. Andy Gee

Friend, eric koston. for the bonus question.

  223. Andres ESpinosa

    IT’s lil wayne!

  224. Andres ESpinosa

    lil wayne

  225. randy bazin

    pulp fiction

  226. Thomas

the connection between you and the answer of the first question is that you will be a pro skater for 19 years in 2010!!!

  227. Elrond Radie

Steve Berra has only been professional for 18 years not 19…he turned pro at age 18 for blockhead and he is 36 now…so 18 and 18 makes 36!! I do not believe that you have been professional for 19 years Steve Berra!!! 🙂 And…You will be skating pro for 19 years in 2010…(YEAH RIGHT!) :O hahaha

  228. John Shumaker

    For the bonus question,

Lil Wayne answered all except for the last statement, “Me for President, don’t holla atchya boy”. Final answer.

  229. tyler dood

you wanted to lower the gas prices. butteryass donovan gave you the rest of your answers to that question.

  230. Elrond Radie

Ok…you have 90 FIRST place soccer trophy’s in your “DAD’S” Garage, and independence was always something that interested you! Soccer was something that your dad wanted you to do, and you wanted to break free from constant soccer 24/7 and do something of your own…so you started skateboarding as a form of independence and an art of yourself.

  231. Elrond Radie

    the connection is “INDEPENDENCE!”

  232. Kamal Kumar

i believe this is right, well it doesn’t matter if it’s right, it’s what I believe in. A few weeks ago, or maybe a month. Steve Berra had once said, that skateboarding has become an escape and now everyone is trying to make money off of it by slapping logos and ridiculous EXTREME symbols on it. Berra knows what skating was and is. Everyone has a different perspective of this passion. For some it’s money, some it’s fame, but for Berra and many others it was an escape from reality. It helped him keep him off the wrong path. Skateboarding isn’t a sport nor a hobby. It’s a passion. It’s an experience, it’s life.

    • Elrond Radie

(what KAMAL said)…that is as true as it can get right there! keep that up or corporation can and will corrupt all of skateboarding.

  233. Alex

Ben Folds – Bitches Ain’t Shit is where you got that from?
and you added in the freeway

  234. Evin Ryan

For the first connection the resemblence of the prize and the anser is that you chose skating because it is your choice and you could be creative about it. With the board of my choice it is my time to be creative with what I want to skate if I want to try a bigger or smaller board or if I would like to get hard wheels. The combonations are endless and same with your style and creativity in skating.

  235. Tuckr

    questions steve asked:

Q: [i’ve been skating] almost 24 years. Can you believe that?
A: thats pretty impressive. turning pro after only five years is a major accomplishment.

Q: How about this though, I will act in your next film and I will act in my next film. Sound good?
    sounds good.

Q: …why on earth would you want to give him a hard time?
A: its just the way things are; the people with the money to finance what creative people do don’t necessarily need to care, since they have the money, and so often they don’t. It makes it hard for artists to do what they do, and that’s definitely a large contributor to the ‘starving artist’ epidemic, in music, skateboarding, and traditional art art.

those are my answers to questions ‘steve asks in an answer to a question in an interview.’

you guys phrased it so confusingly! hard to know what answer you want.

  236. Javier CArdona

This song is also sampled by Lil Wayne in “I’m Me” off his 2007 EP, “The Leak.” “Hymn”, “Everything is Wrong”, “God Moving Over the Face of the Waters” are all featured on Steve Berra’s segment in the skateboarding documentary The End.

I believe this is the connection from the lyrics and Steve Berra

  237. Jesse Negrete

(BONUS QUESTION) the connection was lil wayne’s quote was similar to steve’s rap on twitter!

  238. Javier CArdona

The connection is you and Lil wayne both were very creative in your fields, (his rap yours skateboarding) and with being creative and independent you guys took the risk of trying new things to make skateboarding and a rap a new thing. Because rap has been corrupted by all these people just rapping about money, cars and women. And skateboarding has been corrupted by marketing of companies, all you see now is kids who wanna dress skater because it’s “cool” and they don’t even skateboard for fun they just wanna show off and be sponsored. In the older days if you were a “skater” or you listened to rap you were a weird kid, but now everyone is doing it because it’s “cool.” I think by making the Berrics you and Eric have both shown to people what skateboarding really is, it’s about the fun of being with your friends, having fun being free, and the feeling of landing a new trick is amazing. And it’s not about how you dress or how you skate because everyone is different and unique in their own way. You don’t need to be good or sponsored to have fun. and although I don’t know much about rap I know that Lil Wayne has a different style of rapping that really influenced the music by giving it a different prespective. Thanks to you and Eric for making the Berrics and keep up the good work. Peace

  239. Andrew Meador

By Weezy, from Tha Carter Documentary; you added the answer “I’d change the prices of gas, of course, bring them down to where they was.”

  240. Drizzledisturbed

The connection between the answer of the first prize question and Steve Berra is that Steve Berra hates traffic…and that’s why he wants his own freeway.

  241. Michael Horton

Lil’ Wayne from his movie ‘The Carter Documentary you added the part about you having your own freeway.

  242. Michael Horton

Lil’ Wayne from his movie ‘The Carter Documentary’

  243. The freeway part was yours, the rest is from lil’ wayne….. nice job steve on the berrics.. i kind of live off this website. i look at it everyday, and have all the things i could get from the canteen.. well before it was unified.. well good job on the berrics..

    -david ko

  244. Rick Nagata

I read this from a Lil Wayne thing on IGN I thought it was hilarious, You added the Freeway part.

  245. The freeway part was yours, the rest is from lil’ wayne…

    -david ko

  246. The director of “The Carter Doc” also wrote/directed “Weapons”. Mark is in “Weapons” and also “The Good Life”

    that’s all I got

  247. lil wayne documentry i just saw it lol

  248. Henry Fersko

    *BONUS QUESTION:
The connection between you and lil wayne is that you both started life with little money and a passion, which for you was skating and for weezy it was rapping and you both took your passions far in life to get you where you are now.

please hook me up with a board i’ve had the same board for a year and have been trying to save up for a new one for a long time have not been able too please hook me up!!!!!!

  249. Harrison Gibson

The part “I’d have my own freeway.” was written by Steve, and the rest was by Lil’ Wayne from ‘The Carter Documentary’. The connection between the ANSWER of the first PRIZE question and Steve Berra is that Lil’ Wayne wants all the things which Steve Berra doesn’t necessarily want for America.

  250. Drizzledisturbed

The connection between the first prize answer and Steve Berra is that Steve Berra hates traffic…and that’s why he would build his own freeway.

  251. Hank Boudreau

In reply to the bonus question “The Carter” documentary appeared at the Sundance film festival as did your (Steve Berra’s) movie but 2 years earlier

  252. Derek W

    Steve,
you wrote/directed The Good Life and in that cast was mark webber. mark webber also was on the cast of Weapons, which was written and directed by Adam Bhala Lough. Adam Bhala Lough is the director of The Carter. This is how you and lil wayne are connected because The Carter was a documentary on Lil Wayne.

  253. Kevinnnn B.

another Answer to the bonus: Steve berra’s film starred at the Sundance film festival, the same place as lil waynes.

  254. The connection between you in 50 cents because you and 50 cents didn’t have much when you where younger you had a passion for skateboarding and his passion was rapping

  255. yeah you got the billion dollars thing from Lil’ Wayne. But i’m prettysure you did the freeway thing?.

  256. and also you and lil wayne both grew up in like shitty shits and all. but you both rose up and became like beast ass people. you also both make awesome of your profesions. rap/skateboarding?

  257. Juan Rodriguez

for the bonus: both you and JASHOLE joshua jeffery are friends and skate.

  258. Juan Rodriguez

for the 1st answer :you got it from http://jashole.blogspot.com/ and it joshua jeffrey blog site

  259. angel

i like your answer for the reason you chose skateboarding. mine is cause… i saw my step dad jump on a board and he did all these tricks.. i wanted a board so bad… my step dad finally bout me a board and i couldn’t put it down… I’ve been skating for about 12 or 13 years and i honestly love every second of it…. its my passion in life.. i cant imagine doing anything else.. skateboarding has honestly changed my life… and has stopped me from making some really bad decisions. like you i also came from a family who didnt have much but worked hard for what we had. i got a job at a young age and worked just so i could have enough money to get my next skateboard.. friends helped a lot through this period in my life. i will skate till i die…

  260. Nigger please

    That was an amazing interview

P.S: Steve Berra is a fucking genius

  261. Chase suttorp

The Connection is that You and Lil Waynes Answers are completely different from each others.

  262. orub

Lil Wayne documentary, freeway thing is added by steve. The connection between them is opposite way I think, cuz steve wants that to be the same

  263. Fian Halim

    Lil Wayne. Young money weezy.

  264. Timi

it lil aynes documentary an the relation is hat hes all up on berras ipod

  265. Luke

The Answer to the bonus question is that you and Lil Wayne is that you both agree that education is a very important thing, and you must have an education. Also, you and Lil Wayne are the type of people that don’t think it’s silly that with hard work and care one person can change the world. We don’t just need rappers or only skateboarders( Which skateboarding is the shit!!!!) in the world people to aspire to be Scientists or engineers, or even the next President of The United States. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

  266. The quote was from lil wanye!!!!!!
and you added the freeway part.. dude i would too if i had a billion dollers.. and you hate traffic so thats why you added that part..
    well

    good job on the berrics….

    -david ko

  267. The freeway part is yours the rest you got from Lil Wayne

  268. D

    CHEESE AND RISE MOTHER FUCKEr

  269. John

    “Bonus Question”

How you would have your own freeway cause theres too much traffic means you would have your own skatepark because theres too much security and skate blockers etc. the connection is you went the distance and now you have your own skatepark (freeway) without any skate blockers etc. (traffic).

  270. Caleb

You got most of it from lil’ wayne.
thanks for keeping up the amazing site.

  271. Austin Dailey

You got it from the Lil’ Wayne Documentary and I think the freeway part was from you?

  272. Talink

well im probably not going to win but it doesnt hurt to try

its lil wayne the carter 3 docementary
this is the part when he is sitting down spoking a blunt and the guy thats interviewing him asks this question

  273. xavier

for the bonus question i believe it connects because just as lil wayne would change so much with a billion dollars berra out here to change the skate game by buildign this awesome ass place called the berrics. whichthey have changed a lot. hey i dont kno if im right but thatswhat i believe
    -Shred

  274. xavier

for the bonus question i believe that the connectiuon is that berra with the spreading of the berrics, hes out there to change the skate community as lil wayne would change all of everyone elses life with a billion dollars. both goals are in reach

  275. Gabo

Hmm… the gas thing part was from the documentary of Lil’ Wayne. Although… the rest was yours I think.
Oh! and for the bonus question, I’m just taking a guess here, “the berrics run skateboarding” hoodie connects to Steve because Steve “runs” the berrics so it would be something like “Steve runs the berrics, which runs skateboarding” this also represents that Steve is supporting skateboarding hips and that Steve is the one that does the work “behind the scenes” because the publicity is from the berrics, but also from the skaters like Steve and Koston.

  276. Sky

Its from the lil wayne docuementary of The Carter and bonus question is if he could have his own freeway.

  277. Shaun McChillen

    NECKFACE! =P

  278. liked the interview a lot. always interesting to read about other peoples lives especially skateboarders.

    What’s your motivation?

“Money. Money and more money. I love it and want it so much”

If Berra is not joking well, thats a terrible motivation.

  279. Steezy R

You got the answers from Lil wayne, which he said in his “The Carter” documentary (What Lil Wayne would do if he was President). You added the “I’d have my own freeway. ” “. I’d use that billion dollars to change that.” “Me for President, don’t holla atchya boy.” (Lil wayne says “Wayne for president, holla atchya boy.)

Bonus Question: Steve wrote and directed the movie ‘ The Good Life ‘ (2007) which in the movie had a main character by the name of Jason (Mark Webber) who also starred in the movie ‘ Weapons ‘ (2007). The movie ‘ Weapons ‘ was written and directed by Adam Bhala Lough, which is the same director that directed ‘ The Carter ‘ documentary which was released in 2009. Ontop of this, Lil Wayne is one of your favorite music artists along with The Faint, MGMT, Dirge, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brother, The Naked Brothers, Lil’ Wayne, The Game, 50, Eminem, Billy Ray Cyrus, Garth Brooks, Jon Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Styx, Rush, Maiden etc..

  280. the freeway part was yours

  281. D

FOOL THE PHARCYDE YOU NEED TO LISTEN. . .

SHE KEEPS ON PASSING ME BY ! ! !

  282. Imran W.

the connection between you and lil’ wayne is that
you control the skateboard industry while wayne controls the hip hop community.

    ahahaha i hope so

  283. Andy Nguyen

It was from lil wayne in tha carter documentary

“I’d use that billion dollars to change that. Next question. Me”

and the stuff about the freeway

  285. Ralph

?#1. Comes from Lil Wayne – Carter Documentary (who and what)
    Filmed here in the U.S.(where)

    ?#2.**BONUS**
Either A. The connection is freedom because u(berra) find freedom in skateboarding(like lil wayne finds freedom in changing things with a billlion dollars).

or B. The connection is changing things done improperly by people(or government) that dont know or are unaware of what its like to go through the hardships normal people go through in everyday life. Therefore (the same reason that berra and eric started the berrics) someone normal needs to change things that benifit the normal people (once again, like lil wayne would do with a billion dollars.)

  286. Ralph

?#1.oh and the part that you{berra} added is
“i would like to have my own freeway”

  287. Tyler Dunn

Was the connection that lil waynes question was if he was president what would he do. and you are the president of The Berrics?

  288. Jaidyn Beilby

it doesn’t matter if it is off a documentry and i don’t care if i spelled that word wrong the answer i thinks is freedom and freedom of speech and mind, its about no caring what other people think of you its what you think of your self and if you belive in your self you can do anything you want soo don’t care what other people say about you, just live your life how you want to live it and steve berra he didn’t care what people probly said to him he just went out and did it this is what i reckon the answer is BELIVING IN YOUR SELF

  289. Ryan

Its taken from Lil Wayne’s documentary The Carter and you added in the part about the freeway and gas.

  290. Leonard L

I’m pretty sure it’s from Lil Wayne’s documentary “The Carter”, and you just added the freeway part.

  291. Jon Craig

no answer here just saying steve that you truly are my inspiration and motivation to push throuh the hardships of skateboarding. the berrics is ingenious and you should be very proud with that accomplishment. thanks for everything and god bless

  292. Matt Decof

Lil Wayne From The Carter Documentary
    you added the freeway part

The connection is based upon the fact that so many people have looked at you as if you have changed the face of skateboarding, as Lil wayne has changed the face of rap today. So many people would think of your name, as well as Lil Wayne’s name when thinking of either topic. Many people look for lil wayne music because he is now such a known figure , just like everyday, many kids go on to theberrics.com just to see updates in your skateboarding world

    cool interview.
    happy 2010!

  296. Jose Flores

It’s Lil Wayne in The Carter Doc. He is being interviewed in a room on a couch with someone and then after the interview Lil Wayne tells him to get out of here and stop the interview. He got mad when he asked him about his past.

Lil wayne said most of that quote. The connection is mark webber. He is your boy. and he directed the lil wayne documentary. Lil wayne should go to the berrics after all he is in kyle terbush’s recruit. he is also in other videos. give the guy some credit. Steve your changing skateboarding for the better everyday. Thanks for doing your thing.

  304. Hey I just wanted to let you know, I really like the composition on your website. But I am using Firefox on a machine running version 9.04 of Ubuntu and the UI aren’t quite right. Not a important deal, I can still fundamentally read the articles and explore for info, but just wanted to inform you about that. The navigation bar is kind of tough to apply with the config I’m running. Keep up the good work!

  305. The Berrics, Berra and Koston, killer combination. Keep up the good work!!
